Abstract
The purpose of this study was to investigate the differences in cognitive function between children with intellectual disabilities and normal children by using the clock drawing test(CDT) and to verify the validity of the CDT as a screening tool for cognitive differences. The participants of this study were a total of 220 school-age children aged 9 to 13 years old, including 110 normal children and 110 children with intellectual disabilities, and the CDT was performed by all participants. In terms of data analysis, the t-test, frequencies and percentages, and the one-way ANOVA were conducted. And the children's characteristics shown in the CDT were identified through content analysis. The results of the study are as follows: First, there were statistically significant differences in the CDT scores between normal children and children with intellectual disabilities. In other words, the majority of the normal children correctly perceived and drew the clock, while most of the children with intellectual disabilities made errors in all sub-domains. Second, there were statistically significant differences in the CDT scores according to the disability grade of the children with intellectual disabilities. The more severe the degree of disability was, the lower the ability to perform the CDT was. Therefore, the CDT is thought to be a valid screening tool for discriminating between normal children and children with intellectual disabilities.
